George Bush Dies

George Bush passed away last night.

Our forty first president and father of our forty third president.

A WW II flyer who served the country most of his life.

A rival of Ronald Reagan who called Reagan's financial strategy "Voodoo Economics." He served as Reagan's vice-president for eight years. Then as president famously promised "No New Taxes" but the Democratic majority had different ideas. He could have vetoed that tax bill, but signed it and sealed his fate to a one term president, because Republicans would have no new taxes. I often thought Bush welcomed the Democratic tax hikes and he would not veto them, because he thought it best to pay down the national debt and believed Reagan's tax cuts were "Voodoo Economics." Bush was correct, or more to the point the Democrats were correct.

Bush put together a world coalition of military might to get Saddam out of Kuwait. Bush never went into Baghdad after Saddam, because that's not the deal he made with the other powers and they did not want to go after Saddam, in fact, they said they would not march to Baghdad and told Bush not to either. As leader of the most powerful nation on Earth Bush could have gone alone into Baghdad, but he kept his word to those other powers and the tradition of American military power to stop the aggression, not seek revenge, or want to take, or invade other lands.

Bush was president when the Berlin wall came down. For those of you to young to remember what the Berlin wall was all about, it was a very big deal that the wall was torn down. Of course a lot of that credit has to go to the Soviet Union.

Bush (the Republican) fought for the Disabilities Act, environmental law, and oversaw the destruction of nuclear arms.

President Trump released a nice statement this morning, but as usual, it was hollow and a lie. Trump spent the last three years blasting Bush and in his book Bush said he did not like Trump. Once again showing his good judgement.

Other past presidents have released sincere statements about Bush's service to the country and what a decent man he was, and he was.

Bush was also the last of the moderate Republican presidents and that is a loss for America.

  2. Yeah. The Democrats favorite Republican. I knew a guy who made the trip to DC for Act Up's 'Ashes Action' back in '92. Yesterday was World Aids Day. No props from me for Bush's legacy on his bigoted words and actions against Gays, demanding they "Change their behaviors". During his campaign, he ran the Willie Horton, dogwhistle, attack ad, he replaced Thurgood Marshall with Clarence Thomas, and also vetoed the Civil Rights Act of 1990. At least President T-word behaves like the scoundrel he is - publicly and privately. G.H.W. not so much. Yeah. No props from me for the Democrat's favorite Republican.

    1. Trump is so bad he lifts the negative reputations of the rest of the presidential scoundrels.

You are correct bj, yet, I will remember that Bush always thought Regan's trickle down economics was "Voodoo Economics" which it was.

Unfortunately, Republicans have made Regan's cut tax policy their mantra for decades and left us this 20 trillion dollar debt, which is a key to the slow destruction of America.

Communal taxation is now defined as evil, even though it was the basis for building the best country in the world.

I should have been harsher on Bush, he deserves it.

But I would rank Reagan, Bush jr., and Trump worse.

    2. I agree with all of that. And I meant to say above, that I really do admire G.H.W. for his military service, too. He was the real deal with that shit. Un-Like Col. Glenn Miller, Elvis etc..
I think he softened on many issues with his age. With age comes wisdom, n'est ce pas? but Ol' Willy Shakes said it best - The evil that men do yadda yadda ... Like how we NOW look at G.W. a whole different way. Cheney and company, though ..
