Sagan absolutely nailed it with his predictions. We have indeed gotten rid of all domestic manufacturing. The media and information is controlled by a few powerful entities, and we have so substantially dumbed down America, that we say "follow the science" and then absolutely do the opposite.
Oh, and that always bothered me that Chewbaca didn't get a medal too! ;)
